suggestions welcome

Ok, I need some help with this "closet". I have no idea what to do with it. It's not really a closet, but more shelves and storage in a doorway...yes, weird. we walk through it to go from our hallway by the bedrooms through to the kitchen/office area. the closest thing to it are the desk & pantry.

i'd love to use it practically, for storage maybe, but what does one store in a pass through closet on the way to the bedrooms?

i wanna hear what you think! do i make it decorative or functional? really, i'd love both. the opposite wall from the 2 shelves has nothing, but not really any room for coat hooks since we walk through it.

help!

  2. Ok, I have been thinking about this "closet" and here are some of my suggestions....you could put a coat rack right under the shelf and then two baskets on the floor for shoes?? I have these baskets, they are difficult to explain, but plain colored, wire frame, but covered in cloth material (basically you can't see what is in them from the side) but they have a clear label holder on the side so you can put a piece of paper in it and label what is in it. I would probably put those on the shelves and use it as storage....light bulbs? towels? extra toiletries? Then it will look neat and organized even if the stuff inside the baskets are just thrown in there! (p.s. this all depends on the depth of the "closet" but I would go functional all the way!

  3. find a really cool fabric and make long curtains to cover it up.... or take out the shelves and paint it, make/buy some cool art to put on the wall with a small thin table underneath and add some focused lighting.
